February 25, 2019.
Baseball season is upon us at Palmetto Ridge High School. A time that many players look forward to the whole year. From the new freshman to the experienced upperclassman, hype from this year’s team is expected. With eleven seniors leaving, underclassmen will have to step up and earn their spots on Varsity.
Tryouts were held on January 28 with only the best of the best being able to earn a spot on Varsity. The roster ranges from Freshman to Seniors. This year’s team has many talented underclassmen as well as reigning upperclassmen.
The season starts with two preseason matchups against Gulf Coast High School from February 19th and February 21st.Continuing on, the first regular season game is taking place on February 26th against Community School of Naples. The regular season lasts until May 2nd with the final game being playing against Lely. The rest of the schedule can be found below. Every game starts at 7 p.m. The Sleuth asked Even Snyder, a junior on the team, what game he is most excited about. “I’m most excited about the game against IMG because they are such a great school for baseball and I thought about even going there.”
Practices are every day after school starting at 5:30 PM and sometimes on Saturday. Also, there are workouts Tuesday through Thursday mornings starting at 5:30 AM. This shows a lot of commitment and the want to succeed. Coaches are also there to help team members improve. There are high expectations of the team from the players and Palmetto Ridge fans. Everyone on the team wants to succeed for themselves and the school. They put everything they got on the field and make sure to leave it on the field. Evan commented on this saying, “I just want to play good and help the team as much as I can. Also, the season is going to be tough after we lost a lot of people but I think we’ll do fine.
All members of the team have their own personal goals. Whether they wish to gain experience, play on a college team, or play professionally in the MLB. Evan told us his goals were to have fun but mostly make a career out of it.
Hopefully, our Palmetto Ridge baseball team has a very successful season and brings pride to our school. They will have a great season and a lot to show for with all their talent. With loses and victories, Palmetto Ridge never forgets to cheer on our baseball team.
